The Shreddy App - My Honest Review

For a while now, I have been contemplating doing a review of the new Shreddy app, but I felt as if I hadn't done it for long enough in order to give an honest opinion. However, I am now on week 6 of 12 and I feel as if I have a great understanding of how the app functions, and what I like and dislike.

What is Shreddy?

Shreddy is a fitness app like no other and it stood out to me for so many reasons. It was created by Grace Beverley, a fitness influencer who I credit very heavily. You're given a 12-week fitness programme, hundreds of recipes (all vegan), real-time workouts for when you can't make it to the gym, and a community page where you can talk to other members. It sounded absolutely perfect and I needed it - so I asked my mum very kindly if she could get the 3-month membership as part of my birthday present.

What I thought of Shreddy Initially

At first, I wasn't so sure about Shreddy. And a lot of other girls I spoke to thought the exact same. The app had a lot of errors such as the app quitting every time I came off of it, not being able to time my workouts, no access to the community page, and my music turning off every time I viewed a workout video. It was frustrating, but I understood that this was happening because it was a new app. No apps are perfect, which is why updates exist.

What I think of Shreddy now

It took Grace and her team about 2 weeks to sort out these errors, but they seem to all be fixed now and I'm really happy with the results. Initially, I was restricted with a lot of the features on the app but now I can time how long it takes me to do the workouts, the app doesn't quit anymore, I have access to the community page, and clicking on workout videos doesn't turn my music off.

The Workouts

I feel lucky as someone who has been training for almost 2 years. As 98% of the exercises included in the fitness programme, I already recognised. However, a lot of the girls doing Shreddy had never worked out in their life and downloaded the app for some guidance. Many complained that there weren't alternative exercises for any of the harder moves like push-ups and pull-ups, and they had to sit in the gym googling it which took up time they didn't have. As far as I know, this is being fixed. But is definitely something that should've been a feature in the first place.

About 6 months ago, I tried out Krissy Cela's fitness app, Tone and Sculpt, and not only did it have alternative exercises, but it also had alternative ingredients for recipes in the meal plan. This is something Shreddy should be doing.

The Meal Plan

Personally, I don't follow the meal plan as I like to meal prep for 4 days of the week. However, every meal prep I have done for the past 4 weeks has been inspired by the Shreddy recipes. A few of my favourite recipes include:
  • Scrambled Tofu and Mushrooms on Toast
  • Hummus 'n' Pitta
  • Falafel Wrap
  • Fried Tofu Pasta
  • Garlicky Tomato Beans and Rice
A few recipes I haven't tried yet but would love to:
  • Breakfast Burrito
  • Berry Banana Pancakes
  • Jacket Potato with Cheezy Beans
  • Seitan Pitta Plate
  • Tempeh Pittas
  • Smoky Double Cheeseburger
The recipes are good, and they are mostly made up of foods that are easily accessible in the supermarket so there are no complaints there. I just hope in the future they decide to add higher protein recipes because I had to add extra protein to a lot of them.

Conclusion

In conclusion, I really like Shreddy and I think it definitely lives up to my expectations. I'm not sure if I'm going to keep the app after 12 weeks because I get bored easily. But what I do know is that I won't be cancelling my subscription early.

If you've tried Shreddy, let me know what your thoughts are below. If not, from what I've said, do you think Shreddy is for you? Have you tried any other fitness apps? Let's discuss!

Please leave a comment if you have any suggestions for future blog posts. I am also happy to answer any questions about veganism and/or fitness you may have.
